California?
 | There are some non-stops directly from Los Angeles (area), San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco,
Sacramento to Kahului (As of June-Sept. 2008 we have been traveling on
United & American Airlines and have found direct flights & 1 stop
flights from
Los Angeles (area), San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, & Sacramento to Kahului).
Aloha & ATA airlines are no longer. Hawaiian Air provides
inter-island service. |

Standard Time (HST)
 | Secure Express Check-in with state-of-the-art keyless entry:
The
Oracode 660K by Kaba generates a unique 6 digit combination for every guest. The
code starts working at 2:00pm (HST) on the day of your arrival and stops working
at 12:00noon (HST) on
the day of your departure. The combination will be sent to you after full
payment is received and prior to your arrival. Enter the combination on
the keypad to unlock the door.

You can change the code to your own
personal code by following these steps:
1)
Enter your code and press # symbol.

Housekeeping
and maintenance personnel get their own codes. We can track who has
entered the premises with a palm pilot. We sleep better at night knowing
you and your family are safe and secure.

locked out when your door lock code deactivates at 12:00noon (HST). |
7) What is the beach like in front of the condo?
 | Our beach is sandy with small chunks of rocks and coral, seaweed washes up
on the beach which Maui County clears. I classify
it as a jogging and walking beach and not really a sun bathing beach -
however some folks do, and we have too. The beach is not a pile up lava rock as
some beaches-shorelines are. It is very convenient in the morning so
we take our kids (when ages 3, 5, 7 and still do) for beach walks, play with the boogie
boards, and wade in the surf - the waves are mellow and they love it. They
are kido's and anything with sand & water is still a beach. |
 | Okay to swim, it is very shallow I have waded out to about
waste high for 30-50+/- yards maybe further. |
 | Around the corner sometimes I see some folks surfing - I don't know if it
is any good. |
 | Around noon the trade winds come up and this area is considered one
of the best wind and sail surfing locations on the island. (lots
of fun to watch the wind and sail surfers). |
 | During whale season you can whale watch right from the shoreline. |
 | Since the beach is sandy snorkeling is not that good. Most snorkeling
sites tend to be rocky (fish like the rocks). Rocky shorelines are not advisable for small
kids. Having small kids it has been a while since I have had an opportunity to
do some serious snorkeling. |
 | The beach varies seasonally, annually and I have yet to figure out any
trend. |
 | BE AWARE - SURF CONDITIONS CAN CHANGE VERY QUICKLY FROM CALM
TO DANGEROUS HIGH SURF. BE EXTRA CAREFUL WITH BEACH ACTIVITIES,
ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH OCEAN AND SURF CONDITIONS. |
8) Is your condo Ocean Front?
 | Our condo, located in the
A building is ground floor, ocean front. Our condo
floor plan is as shown with the master bedroom and dining/living
rooms facing the
ocean. Our unit is 1 of 2 exclusive units in the entire
resort that are Ground Floor & Ocean Front with the master bedroom
and living room facing the Ocean. Bedrooms in most other
units face away from the ocean with a few facing the interior garden area. |
 | Luana Kai Resort is considered ocean front, however only the A
& D buildings are ocean front. I mention this because
some owners with garden units in the B & C buildings are soliciting their units as ocean front. |
9) Does your condo have Air Conditioning?
 | Yes, since June 2006 we have air conditioning. The
kitchen/living/dining room, master bedroom, and second bedroom are each
provided with a very quite air conditioning unit and have individual
room temperature
controls. (the air conditioning system is very nice) |
10) Do other units at Luana Kai have Air
Conditioning?
 | Installing Air Conditioning was approved by the homeowners starting Jan
2006. Only high efficiency, very quite, split systems were approved.
Most other condo units DO NOT have Air Conditioning due
to the high cost ($15-20K) of installing the approved system and the
increased electricity cost to operate the system. On Maui electricity
costs $0.35-$0.45kwh vs. $0.05-$0.20kwh on the mainland. |
11) What are the sleeping arrangements in the
condo?
 | California King bed in the master bedroom sleeps 2 |
 | Queen bed in the second bedroom sleeps 2 |
 | Couch bed in the living room sleeps 2 (commercial grade with very nice
pillow top mattress) |
 | Our condo technically sleeps 6, however we removed a walk-in closet creating additional floor space in the master bedroom
which can easily sleep another 2-3 depending on desired comfort
level. You need to bring your own air mattress, cushions or areo bed if you
plan on doing this. |
12) Where is the nearest grocery store and other
domestic shopping & food?
 | Super Safeway - about 4 minutes away (Piilani Shopping Center) |
 | Longs Drugs - about 2 minutes away (Longs Center) |
 | Blockbuster Video - next to Safeway (Piilani Shopping Center) |
 | Post Office - about 2 minutes away (next to Azeka Shopping Center) |
 | Movie Theater - about 2 minutes away |
 | McDonalds - about 2 minutes away (just before the Azeka Shopping Center) |
 | Outback Restaurant - about 4 minutes away (Piilani Shopping Center) |
 | Cold Stone Creamery - about 4 minutes away (Piilani Shopping Center) |
13) Where is your condo located?
 | North end of Kihei about 2 minutes from the 310-311-31 intersection to:
Lahaina (Hwy 310), Kahului (Hwy 311), Piilani Hwy (Hwy 31).
Great location for doing day trips to anywhere on the island. Visit our map
web page Maui Maps. |
14) Who do I call in case of an emergency?
 | If you have a life threatening emergency's call 911.
For non-life threatening problems or emergency's
call David or Barbara Smith (831) 476-1525 (work), (831) 704-7214 (home),
(831) 247-1545 (cell). |
15) How accurate is the on-line availability
calendar?
 | We diligently update our on-line availability
calendar and consider it accurate. Please do not make airline
reservations without first emailing us to confirm and hold dates. When
you confirm your reservation we will hold reservation days for 1 week to receive your deposit/payment and allow you time to firm up your air travel arrangements.
Our standard policy is: "Reservation dates are not
guaranteed until deposit monies are received and written conformation is
provided unless other written or email pre-arrangements are made with us." |
 | Please
Note: If you have confirmed a reservation with us, our
on-line calendar is updated when we receive your deposit. Mahalo. |
16) Are there any additional cleaning or other fees?
 | No, our nightly rates include cleaning and key fees. Monthly rentals
include one mid-stay cleaning. |
17) Is a security deposit required?
 | Yes. We are sorry we have to collect a security deposit due to a few guests who
have left a mess. Our condo is our second home and our expectation is
that you treat our home as your own. We understand accidents happen
and things get broken. Please let us know so we can make arrangements
to correct the problem prior to our next guests arrival. Mahalo. |
18) Is parking free?
 | Yes & No, Our association implemented permit parking Oct. 2006, which
costs $5.00 per vehicle - one time registration fee. Barbara & I
feel that our guests should not have to pay for this fee. We have
heard mixed reports if the fee is consistently being collected; so if you end up paying the $5.00
fee please let us know so we can send you a
refund. |
19) Is maid service provided?
 | No, the condo is cleaned for you prior to your arrival and after you
leave. Housekeeping cleans and stocks our unit with linens, paper
products and starter packs of: bath soap, laundry detergent, trash can
liners and
dishwashing soap prior to your arrival. Once these are used up,
you are responsible for replenishment during your stay. |
 | We ask you use liquid soap vs. bar soap to help reduce soap scum buildup. |
 | We ask any dirty dishes be loaded to the dishwasher
and start the dishwasher with soap before leaving. Housekeeping will
unload the dishes. |
20) Is there a washer and dryer in the
condo?
 | Yes, we have a Maytag Neptune, stackable washer/dryer combo unit.
New as of June 2005. Works like a champ. |
 | We ask that really sandy clothes be rinsed off or air dried on the lanai
& shook out really good prior to being put in the washer/dryer.
It's okay to use the shower and sinks for light sand, however heavy
sand should be washed off with the hose near the handicap parking/
trash dumpster area. |
 | Maui sand is fine & really hard on the clothes washer internal parts
and the condo plumbing. We have not experienced problems (knock
on wood) but understand excessive amounts of sand can accumulate to
plug up the drains and accelerate the wear/tear on the clothes washer.
Your help is greatly appreciated. |
21) Are there beach towels in the condo?
 | Yes, we ask you take care of them, really, really shake out the sand, and return
to the condo so they can be cleaned and ready for our next guest. |
 | Our if you use beach towels please leave them on the floor by the clothes
washer/dryer so housekeeping will laundry them for our next guest. Mahalo. |
22) How far is the pool from the condo?
 | Our unit is ground floor so you can walk out the lanai slider or the
front door to the pool which is about 50ft +/-. Pool gate has a
combination lock, the current pool code will be emailed to you with condo
rental information. The pool code can also be obtained from the front
desk. Please for the safety reasons DO NOT give the pool code to
your children. See "Resort Site
Plan" at the bottom of the "Amenities"
(click here & scroll down) web page. |
23) How many square feet is your condo?
 | 1120sqft. is considered large to Hawaii standards (1240sqft with lanai). |
24) Does your unit have High Speed DSL and/or WI-FI
Internet
Access?
 | Yes - it's free to our renters. We have a dedicated phone
line with DSL so the internet can be accessed through hardwire
Ethernet DSL or
wireless WI-FI DSL connection. The WI-FI is a private wireless network
dedicated for our guests. Information to access the WI-FI connection is
provided in the rental confirmation package. The phone line can also be used for a computer
fax modem to send or receive faxes. The phone number is posted on the phone
jack. The DSL modem/router & WI-FI are direct connections to the internet. Be sure
to use internet security software. |
25) How many TV's does your condo have? We
have 3 TV's.......
 | Guest bedroom 37" LCD flat screen, with
combo VHS/DVD player |
 | Master bedroom 46" LCD flat screen,
with playstation 3 which plays standard, high def & blue-ray DVD's. |
 | Living/Dining Room has 27" +/-
standard television - not sure of the size, you can see the TV in the condo
web site photo's, with DVD player. |
